Treasures from the Landesbibliothek Coburg
The outstanding feature of the Landesbibliothek Coburg is the quality and volume of its collections. They are the result of several members of the Coburg ducal house (Ernestine Wettins) having an acute sense for the foundations of education, science and cultural life. It was about creating a solid compilation of content substance and completeness. The awareness of having helped the Reformation to achieve a breakthrough was constitutive for the Ernestines – from the 16th century to Prince Consort Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1819-1861). The Landesbibliothek Coburg's excellent collection on the Reformation and confessionalism has its foundation here. The focus is on the excellent collection of Wittenberg Bibles. They are not only visually appealing, but above all make the history of the Luther Bible's creation easy to trace in text, image and print.
