Wolfram von Eschenbach‘s Parzival
The verse novel, preserved in about 84 manuscripts and fragments, shows the popularity of this 24,000 medieval verse work, which tells the story of Parzival based on Old French sources. It is one of the best preserved Middle High German poems. The Bavarian State Library keeps several manuscripts and fragments of Parzival. Among them is the codex Cgm 19, which forms the basis for the edition created by Karl Lachmann in 1824, which is still valid today.
